How it all started We at Special Foods™ know how difficult these problems can be. Ms. Karen Slimak, the founder of Special Foods™ is a scientist and consultant who specializes in food allergies. The products offered by

Special Foods™ were originally developed to meet the needs of both food allergy patients and family members. The Slimak children were diagnosed with extensive, severe food allergies at 5 years, 3 years, and 5 months of age. In the early months, the children ate a boring diet of boiled, steamed root vegetables and exotic game meats. The children began to lose interest in eating and rapidly lost weight. Thus began a frantic attempt to find ways to prepare more concentrated forms of the foods, such as flours and breads. The results of the research became available in “the nick of time.” First, flours were invented and used to make gravies and milk substitutes. Next she developed baking powders and pancakes, quick breads, loaf breads, cakes, and cookies — ALL without any grains, milk, eggs, yeast and sugar. (They said it couldn’t be done!) Then came pastas, pie crust, imitation nut butters, muffins, waffles, pancakes, French toast, bagels, doughnuts, dumplings, tortillas, cereals, imitation milk, ice cream, and milkshakes, chips, puddings, jams, fruit drinks, sodas (!) and more!
